I think there are seven immortals and not eight. The seven immortals reflect seven eternal values.
They are:
1. Aswathama (consequences of unethical behaviour)
2. Bali (valour and charity)
3. Vyas (continuity of erudition, scholarship and the apotheosis of the writer as the ultimate visionary)
4. Hanuman (selflessness, courage, devotion, energy, strength and righteous conduct)
5. Vibhishana (righteousness and unshakable faith)
6. Kripacharya (impartial teacher unlike Drona who favoured Arjuna)
7. Parashuram (humility despite being all powerful and courage to admit mistakes).
I may be wrong about the figure. Hope Ramesh helps.

Very interesting. There are quite a few intriguing things in our mythologies. The presence of Hanumana on earth being one of them. But isn't immortality is against the laws of creation and that's why many boon wishers were denied that by the gods whom they pleased to get the boon of immortality.

Bali is not the Vali who was the vanara king and the elder brother of Sugriva, but King Bali or Mahabali, the benevolent Asura King of what is now known as Kerala, who was the grandson of Prahlada. Onam is celebrated in his honour.
Vishnu took the Vamana Avatar to contain him because he was increasingly taken as being unsafe because of the virtues collected through his righteousness by the Gods due to his Asura lineage.

Thanks Hemant for providing intresting information ”I think there are seven immortals and not eight. The seven immortals reflect seven eternal values.
They are:
1. Aswathama (consequences of unethical behaviour)
2. Bali (valour and charity)
3. Vyas (continuity of erudition, scholarship and the apotheosis of the writer as the ultimate visionary)
4. Hanuman (selflessness, courage, devotion, energy, strength and righteous conduct)
5. Vibhishana (righteousness and unshakable faith)
6. Kripacharya (impartial teacher unlike Drona who favoured Arjuna)
7. Parashuram (humility despite being all powerful and courage to admit mistakes).
I may be wrong about the figure. Hope Ramesh helps.

”@ Sanjay Modi and Vijay
Bali is not the Vali who was the vanara king and the elder brother of Sugriva, but King Bali or Mahabali, the benevolent Asura King of what is now known as Kerala, who was the grandson of Prahlada. Onam is celebrated in his honour.
Vishnu took the Vamana Avatar to contain him because he was increasingly taken as being unsafe because of the virtues collected through his righteousness by the Gods due to his Asura lineage.
