The last line of the article was most important in the Times of India link that you have given up. The budget of Indian Air Force is very high and the orders placed to get top class aircrafts/jets from the US, ISRAEL, France is on the way. Our close military ties with Israel are of utmost importance.

It is just a matter of 2/3 years when India will be equipped to the extent that it can counter a threat from China. Our defense shopping is even worrying Pakistan as one statement from Kayani clearly said. (though we don’t pose any threat to them)

India’s defense budget stands at $30 billion (which should go and will go to $50 billion in next 4/5 years). China’s stands at $80 billion (world’s 2nd largest) and Pakistan’s stands at $6 billion (which is already very high considering their economy).

The shortage of IAF vacancies will be filled in no time if they go for advertising their vacancies a little aggressively. The educated citizens are growing in number in India and in the next 4/5 years, we can practically reach 80% literacy mark!

Doesn’t matter much. The Chinese Air Force has not been tested under real air combat situations. Besides, having a quantitative superiority doesn’t mean that they can beat a smaller, but qualitatively better air force.

On top of that, the Chinese Air Force has little or no exposure in modern combat simulation exercises as the Indian Air Force has. It has jointly participated with NATO and US Air Forces in exercises like the Red Flag exercises in the US etc.

Having said that, one must understand that the Indian Air Force has miles to go before it can safely say that it holds a superior edge in fighting capabilities than the Asian giant.

Indian Air Force has far less combat aircrafts than its ’authorized’ strength.

This is all due to petty politics and bureaucratic red-tape that plagues our country.
