Prasoon, this is absolutely ”Goonda-Raaj” in Maharashtra.
It all started with molestation of a girl’s in front of Gateway of India and Hyat Residency by Raaj Thackereys MNS anti-social elements and now such incidents are taking place in assembly.

Vijay, both parties are wrong.
An MLA from Belgaum (in Karnataka) who didn’t know Kannada was made to resign from his ministership completely. He did it peacefully. In case of Abu Asim Azmi, he has got nothing except creating trouble in his mind.
the official language of Maharashtra is Marathi. The oath has to be taken in Marathi. Other times, they can talk in any language publically. But, the oath has to be in Marathi. Hindi is NOT the official language of Maharashtra, and Hindi is NOT the national language of India. (it is the official language, not national)
Something that Hindi media has not portrayed you is that everyone in the Vidhan Sabha, including the congress members, BJP, Shivsena, NCP and especially the non - Marathi MLAs have agreed to speak in Marathi and have opposed what Abu Asim Azmi has done. Their democratic style opposition wasn’t shown on Hindi media at all.
When Abu Azmi knows what he is doing is wrong, and doesn’t give a hoot to other civilized people around, tell me what language does he understand??? This is the reason why MNS is decisively coming to the level of violence in certain cases. Azmi was told in a good language by even Congress MLAs to make the oath in Marathi. Other times, he is free to talk in Hindi.
And MNS is garnering more and more support due to this activity. The more and more, you see Raj Thackeray going to Jail, MNS activists being punished, they are garnering more and more support, even among the educated elite class of people.
Political analysts on marathi channels have compared today’s events to the Maharashtra Samyukta Movement of ’50s. That time, Marathis and Gujaratis were unanimously demanding two states (as many other states were made on linguistic basis). Today, the complete House of Vidhan Sabha was unanimously opposed to Abu Asim Azmi’s act, but Azmi didn’t budge and his motives are nowhere good. That is why expelling 4 MLAs of MNS is seen as a heroic act now here.
As for Azmi, I personally wish a person like him shouldn’t be in Maharashtra affairs at all. Maharashtra has definitely got some good deal of politicians till now and that is this state happens to be one of the most developed in India. Those like Azmi involved into bomb blasts and all would only cause more problems further, just like MNS is causing problems by its overt aggression.

Ameya, you have portrayed both Abu Asim and MNS rightly.
Bala Saheb described it as a match fixing, but whatever happened was wrong for Maharashtra,Marathi’s and for India and in this episode both Abu Asim Azmi and MNS are joint winner.
But Ameya what is wrong if somebody takes oath in Hindi or even in Sanskrit.
Didn’t you feel that it’s wrong to oppose ’Hindi’,a language closest to Marathi,in Vidhan Sabha.
Are you watching the serial Jhansi Ki Rani...The Maratha’s had a great past and contributed a lot for India and even many famous temples including the Kashi Visvanath temple was constructed by them.
Even during Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s ”Raj-Tilak’ ceremony, the Pandits of Benares conducted all rituals in Hindi and Sanskrit.
We knows that many states were formed on linguistic basis, but fighting for such silly reasons is totally wrong in present context when our country is facing so many problems from outside.
Ameya, there are many villages and places where the local people still speaks Marathi and these places are very very far away from Mumbai and are in Uttar Pradesh,Madhya Pradesh,Karnataka and even in Rajasthan.
Also in most of the former CP and Berar, which is now Vidharbha, the general public usually communicates in Hindi.
50% of my own relatives are ”Marathi’s” and when we talks,I usually answer in Hindi.
and our own Hindi film Industry is in Mumbai.
Once I visited Vasantdada Patil, who was Governor Of Rajasthan, and was not affluent in Hindi but he never felt any problem in Rajasthan and even people liked a Rajasthani Governer speaking in a mixed language.
But whatever happened in Vidhan Sabha was wrong and it doesn;t portrays a good picture of India and stern action must be taken otherwise whats the difference between UP and Maharashtra.

Yes Vijay, thanks for taking the comment in the right way. It was really good to read on the Maratha empire and Shivaji story from your side. Even half of my relatives in Nagpur are Hindi and we have never had any issue on this.
There is nothing wrong if a MP takes an oath in Hindi or Sanskrit. Thanks for pointing this out. Girish Bapat of Pune took the oath in Sanskrit. Above all, some Thakur of Kandivali took the oath in Hindi apart from one other MLA. This Thakur is also a native of Bihar and speaks Bhojpuri at home. If you go to Kandivali in Mumbai, you will find a large Thakur Estates and their group of institutions who have Bhojpuri minority as well. He was not attacked but Azmi was. I know, you have a question, why??
Because Thakur never talked of distributing sticks in Mumbai for beating locals, he was never involved any 1993 bomb blast, he does not have links with SIMI. Abu Asim Azmi has all that. Thakur is involved into development activities and runs educational institutes. So, he is not hated by MNS and he giving an oath in Hindi was not a problem for them. In fact, many MLAs who were maharashtrians gave the oath in English!!
Just last year, Azmi said that he will not only distribute sticks in Mumbai for beating up locals but also send 20,000 people from Azamgarh. And such a person who comes from some other part of the nation and talks of causing harm here, has now come inside the Assembly. That is really dangerous. Recently, SIMI is said to have become active again and Azmi in Assembly is another worrying fact.
Summing it up, the problem is not against Hindi, it is against a person like Azmi. It is the personal rivalry against Azmi, nothing against Hindi.
I can see many people are happy for the sake that Azmi was hit, owing to his earelier dialogues of ’lathi vatap’. No one got a problem with Hindi, everyone speaks Hindi here!!

They are taking advantage of such situations and are even creating ”scenes’.

An elected official should be in control of his mental emotions at all times.
It gives an extremely poor impression of any elected official to show inability to control himself or herself.
Such incidents are exemplary of Hobbesian philosophy and humankind’s never ending lust and fallacy over:
political power, greed, love, sex and vainglory.
Humankind is forever flawed and we must constantly work on our personality setbacks,

Vijay,
As I had already mentioned above, there is a significant difference between “Official” and “National” wherever in the world.
Regardless their sizes and geopolitical effects, some countries have got up to couple hundreds languages used locally (for instance, Indonesia, Australia, Russia, the USA, European Union constituents).
From this discussion, it is hard to figure out which what is an official language for doing business at government offices of Republic of India.
If no clarity and agreement on the issue have to date been reached at the top level in your country, a “divide and rule” will further benefit from such a gloomy situation of segregation and apartheid at the grassroots level.

I can see many people are happy for the sake that Azmi was hit, owing to his earelier dialogues of ’lathi vatap’. No one got a problem with Hindi, everyone speaks Hindi here!!

Vijay,
As I had already mentioned above, there is a significant difference between “Official” and “National” wherever in the world.

Nothing is wrong with a tongue itself-lacking of order and official procedures makes no good.

never heard....how politicians feels comfortable.
But slapping and attacking an elected member of a house is certainly an act of ’SHAME’.
Every civilized person would definitely condemn this act by MNS MLA,Ram Kadam.
